C.2 digoMailCheck for Mac
Unread mail, where you are already looking.
A lightweight menu bar program that watches IMAP mailboxes in real time and speaks up only when something is actually there.
C.2.1 Overview
digoMailCheck
Mail clients have grown large. If all you want to know is whether something unread is waiting, you should not have to open a window for it. digoMailCheck sits in the menu bar, speaks IMAP itself and uses no third-party libraries.
The interface is available in eleven languages. A fuller introduction with screenshots lives on the program's own site.

C.2.2 What it does
- IMAP with IDLE
- The app keeps a connection open to every folder it watches and learns about new mail the moment it arrives. Where a server cannot do that, it falls back to polling.
- Several accounts, several folders
- Pick any number of folders and subfolders per account. Each one is watched separately, and only unread messages are reported.
- In the menu bar
- A red badge on the envelope shows the number of unread messages. If you want more, a notification adds sender and subject, with a sound on request.
- Passwords in the keychain
- Credentials live in the macOS keychain, not in a settings file. The app talks only to the servers you entered yourself.
